You tap your fingers on the counter and check your phone: still another 45 seconds until you’re supposed to look at the pregnancy test.
You finally check it – the NOT PREGNANT display seeming to scream it’s verdict at you. The rush of emotions come. Despair, frustration, sadness, anger, hope, confusion.
“Did I do something wrong? Why am I not pregnant?”
It’s a devastating feeling. The negative test itself is sad, but then exhaustion hits: you realize you have to go through this all again next month. It’s all the more frustrating because you don’t know what you are doing right or wrong and why you’re not pregnant.
This irony is made worse because some other people seem to just snap their fingers and be pregnant. On the other hand, you probably also know a handful of healthy, wonderful people who have struggled with fertility for years.
I completely understand what you’re going through. As a doula and Ayurvedic coach, I’ve seen it all: people who have gotten pregnant without even trying, people who have had multiple miscarriages, and people who have struggled to get pregnant for months, but weren’t sure what (if anything) they were doing wrong.
Let me tell you what’s NOT going to work: robotically having sex every other day, reading tons of internet articles, and obsessing about pregnancy day and night.
While there are many things you can do to help you getting pregnant, rigid rules and checklists don’t make it more likely to happen.
Instead, you need to know what’s going to actually help your body prepare for pregnancy. You need to learn how to regulate your hormones and be able to tell from your own body when you’re ovulating and fertile. You need to have conversations with your partner about what pregnancy and having a baby means to you.
When you do fertility coaching with me, we help you rebalance body and mind so that you have better fertility and more likelihood of becoming pregnant. We’ll talk about:
I have no interest in demonizing your current habits or overwhelming you with lists of what to do and what not to do. I’m here to lend a compassionate ear and give you tailored recommendations that will bring you closer to your future baby.
“After struggling for many years to get pregnant, my husband and I decided to consult Sam to see if there was something we were missing more holistically. In the throes of fertility testing and treatments, Sam listened to us without judgement and with immense compassion. Her warmth and positive energy helped guide us in creating the mental and physical space that ultimately led to us welcoming our daughter into the world. Sam is able to say difficult things in such a caring way. As part of our fertility journey with Sam, she also recommended supplements, provided ayurvedic nutrition advice, and offered personalized yoga sessions to complement our work together.”

Serious question: how did people have babies before Google?
There are SO many questions. SO many decisions. Having a baby is like having a second job.
Sometimes the hardest thing to do when you’re pregnant is to take time for you. Not time that you’re researching pregnancy symptoms or putting together a registry. Time that you get to feel the strength of this new body of yours.
Every pregnancy is different: I don’t make any assumptions. I look at you as an individual, and you in the context of your family and community, so that you can make the best decisions for yourself and your baby.
I also know that it’s not all about the information. It’s about how you feel. And so I take a holistic approach – we’re going to introduce mindfulness practices, physical movements, foods, and rituals that will help you feel your best.

Before I got pregnant, I thought my prenatal exercise routine would look a lot like my regular exercise, just a little slower. But when I stepped into a yoga class at 7 weeks pregnant, I knew that I had it all wrong. It wasn’t just my stamina that had changed…my entire body was different.
I kept getting nauseous in downward facing dog. My wrists were aching after just a few minutes of class. I felt lost when the teacher told us it was time for the abs section. In the blink of an eye, the exercise routine I had cultivated over years had to change.
Even as I was modifying my practice, I started to worry that the movements I was doing could be bad for my changing body or even for my baby.
I felt so much better when I adopted a tailored-for-pregnancy exercise routine. My back ache started to clear up, my calf cramps stopped in their tracks, and I felt at home in my new, changing body. If anything, I started to like my prenatal exercise more because it made such a noticeable difference in my body and energy.
Prenatal yoga didn’t just help me physically. I could literally feel the stress drain from my body through the movements and breathwork. This time I took to practice helped alleviate fear I had around my pregnancy, childbirth, and the uncharted territory of motherhood.
Prenatal yoga is powerful. When you do prenatal yoga, you’re not just exercising, you’re also getting ready for one of the biggest events of your life – childbirth. Each session you will learn new skills and gain more confidence in you and your baby’s ability to handle childbirth as gracefully as possible.
As a doula, childbirth educator, and mom, I know how disorienting pregnancy can be. I also know how beneficial and comforting it can be to have a prenatal yoga practice.
“I love Sam’s prenatal yoga classes. She specifically asks how far along you are in your pregnancy and if you feel physical or mental ailments. She will guide you through modifications throughout the class to meet your needs. I have tried other prenatal yoga classes using apps and websites, but nothing makes me feel as strong, empowered, or relieved like Sam’s flow.”
