Here's your friendly reminder that you can use intuition and approximations when cooking! It may take a few tries, but you'll soon find you develop an intuition for what will work well together and how much to add.

Ayurveda says we get to do this with all of our routines. We see the day as an experiment: "what would feel good today?" And if it goes off the rails, it's just information you can use to inform the next day. No blame, to criticism. Just one day at a time. 👍💪

SETTING ENERGETIC BOUNDARIES _ I will fully admit SETTING ENERGETIC BOUNDARIES
_

I will fully admit that it took me multiple days to realize the energetic impact Wednesday's attack had on me. It felt so removed and separate from the day-to-day operations of my life, and yet the pain, fear, uncertainty is here. It echoed a conversation about another situation that I had with my husband this weekend. He said "I went from feeling happy about this to feeling bad about this, just because the other person is feeling bad about it." The compassion and empathy for the other person's situation was overpowering his own joy.
_
It's important to set energetic boundaries. When the energy of the external world constantly influences our internal mood and energy, we become unmoored. Our actions and words are created *in reaction*, not from a mindful response. When we set energetic boundaries, we feel stable in ourselves, confident in our decisions, an grounded in our energy. We still have compassion. We still participate in the world. We don't turn a blind eye to others' suffering. But we do so with greater perspective and from a place where we can truly help. It's like those action movies where someone is getting pulled up the side of a cliff by a rope. The person at the top needs to have 2 feet on the ground and 2 hands around that rope to be able to successfully pull them up.
_

So in this week's yoga practices, we'll continue our work with the first chakra, grounding our energy and finding our own stability. We'll also explore energetic cleansing techniques to help us fortify our boundaries. There's going to be some breathing practices, mudras, and visualizations that you can take off the mat and into your every day routines to protect your energy.

Events like Wednesday's attack can reduce our sense of stability and safety found in the root chakra, muladhara lm

Some yogic and Ayurvedic practices to find balance:
1. Bhumisparsha mudra (shown in photo 1!). Right hand fingertips tent on the groind out to the right, left hand goes on the heart. Breathe in and out to the connection you have with the earth. Receive the gifts and strength of this beautiful planet we call home. Plug in to that energy.

2. Cat and cow poses (photos 2 and 3). These poses are simple and repetitive. Hands and knees on the ground, option to flip the wrists so fingertips face back if you want extra energy to flow through the arms and heart. Open the heart and gaze on the inhale, round the spine on the exhale. Feel the continuous movement of breath and body so that energy doesn't stagnate.

3. Abhyanga. This is an Ayurvedic massage with oil. Use organic, cold pressed sesame oil (or coconut if you have high pitta). Warm the oil on the stove or between your hands and massage the body. Leave the oil on for 10-20 minutes before rinsing off in the shower. The oils lubricate the tissues and help you have a strong barrier physically and energetically.

4. Don't ignore your food/self-care. If you like to eat your emotions 👋, you're not alone. I invite you to pause and ask if your actions are acting to support or destabilize your sense of strength, autonomy, and self-confidence. Recommit to care for your physical body, knowing that your physical strength allows you to show up better emotionally.

Which one of these can you put into practice today? Let me know what you'll be doing in the comments below.. Sending much love to you all.

For our first full week of 2021, we're starting at For our first full week of 2021, we're starting at the root. A plant cannot be healthy without a strong, healthy root system. In that same way, we need to find balance in our root in order to thrive. So in this week's yoga practices we'll be exploring Muladhara Chakra, the energetic center that lives at the base of our spine and rules our sense of stability and safety. Balancing Muladhara Chakra requires us to find peace with our physical bodies and material surroundings. Do we feel comfortable in our home? Do we feel physically and emotionally safe? What's our relationship to our family and community of origin?
_

In the process of balancing the Muladhara Chakra, we create a foundation that allows us to spread our branches, get creative, find joy, and connect to others. But no worries - we'll get to those in later weeks.
_

This week, we'll recommit to our connection to the Earth and make sure our foundation is strong. Think chairs, lunges, balancing, and strength in the lower body. We'll also focus on the movement of our diaphragms (lung and pelvic) to make sure we're taking air (and energy) efficiently and sufficiently.
_

This practice will be the grounding you need to achieve whatever goals you have set for 2021.
_
Join me this week on the mat! Slight schedule change, so be sure to check with the schedule in the second pic! All classes are pay what you can and all are welcome. Please don't let $ be a barrier to joining.

REFERENCE THE PAST <> CREATE YOUR FUTURE _ One of REFERENCE THE PAST <> CREATE YOUR FUTURE
_

One of my favorite teachings of Ayurveda is that we see each day as a new day. Yesterday you might have eaten unhealthfully, binge watched Netflix, slept till noon, and had a fight with your partner. And yet today - today is a new day. Today you have the opportunity to eat, sleep, and move in a way that makes you feel vibrant and energized. Each moment is an opportunity to reference the past and then create the future that you want to see.
_

There's no punishment for past mistakes or identification as "bad" or "lazy" or anything else negative. Today (and this moment) is your opportunity to define what and who you want to be in the world.
_

So yes, it's exciting that we're at a new year!  And yes, even if January 1st or 2nd hasn't looked exactly as you've wanted them too, you get to choose what future you want to create.
_

Give me a 👋 if you've struggled with resetting your energy after those tough days. You're not alone. I hope that this reminder from Ayurveda can help you see that you can change course anytime, anywhere.
_

Which reminds me, I have one spot opening up for virtual private yoga sessions this January. If you're interested in personalized support to shift and reset your energy through breath, movement, and conversation, sign up for a free consultation and let's chat! You can follow the link in my bio or send me a DM to learn if private yoga is right for you.

The perfect way to close out the year...legs up th The perfect way to close out the year...legs up the wall is a fabulous restorative shape that helps balance emotions, relieve sore legs or swollen feet, and relaxes the back. I recommend doing this pose for 5 min/day to help you calm stress at the end of the day.

I'm hoping you are able to find rest as we finish the holiday season and make space for pauses like legs up the wall pose as we enter 2021.

There are no livesteam classes Thurs or Fri - we're back to our regular schedule on Sunday 1/3 with yin yoga at 8pm. It's a wonderful restorative practice that creates strength and ease at the deepest layers of your body.

As we shuffle towards the end of the year, let's r As we shuffle towards the end of the year, let's reset the energy of the body.
_

It has been a HEAVY year energy-wise. We've had to mourn loved ones, jobs, celebrations, routines, and community. All of these situations we encounter (as well as the things we hear, the words we say, what we see, smell, and touch) all leave an energetic imprint on the body.
_

The Chakras are physical and energetic centers in the body. Each one has a particular resonance and relates to specific situations and emotions.
_
In this week's yoga practices, we'll be mindfully moving energy through each of the Chakras to rebalance and reset the energy through the body.
_

You'll leave this week's practice feeling balanced, refreshed, and energetically clean. I hope to see you there.
