Feel like your brain has too many tabs open?  Ye Feel like your brain has too many tabs open?

Yep - it's not just you. Walking around with a bunch of half-finished projects in your head is so common. Our digital world promotes a short attention span and constant distraction (helllooo Vata dosha!)

And it's easy to get down on yourself about it. It's easy to think something must be wrong with *you*. But I want to remind you that this constant running around with all of these projects very easily creates fatigue and burnout. Our brains have been working on overdrive in 95 million directions, so we can focus the energy towards the direction we actually want to go.

And so, I introduce to you one of my favorite mantras: "bring it to completion". When I'm working on something and I want to go check IG..."bring it to completion." when I'm not sure which project to do next? I look to which one I ca bring to completion. If I'm unsure of how to step forward - the priority is what brings me towards completion.

This is a critical part of our transition from Winter to Spring. In the hibernation of Winter, we are called to close the loops and bring things to completion so that we have the energy for new growth, for Spring. When we don't have that processing time, we have a Spring that feels scattered and ungrounded.

In classes this week, we'll be twisting around ourselves to close the loops and bring things to completion. We'll create the foundation necessary for a Spring that propels us forward, instead of keeping us stuck.

I hope to see you on the mat. Livestream classes are always pay what you can, or you can join Patreon for on demand classes, tutorials, and private yoga sessions! The links to both are in my bio.

We went from tapping into stability and safety, to expressiong creativity, to confidence and heart, to voice and intuition, until we connected with our own basic goodness.

Now it's integration time - my favorite part. This week's classes will leave you feeling incredibly balanced and centered. Your energy will harmonize up and down the body to feel a sense of peace and easy joy.

SPRING EATS The weather is changing, and that mea SPRING EATS

The weather is changing, and that means your food should be, too! As we make our way into spring, you might have noticed a desire to get out, get moving, and shed the heaviness of winter. Kapha dosha tends to weigh us down. It provides needed stability, but in excess can get us stuck in a rut. If you've been feeling a little stale or like you're living in Groundhog Day with the same thing again and again...it's time to switch it up and get your kapha dosha in check!

One of the best ways to support your kapha dosha is with your food! Luckily, you don't have to cut out whole food groups or get super strict (though it's true that kapha dosha usually needs a little more structure to support them). Instead, make some simple shifts to your usual food routine:
-Favor light, bitter greens like arugula, kale, and cabbage. Give them a quick sautee or steam so they're easier on your digestion.
-Use black pepper, fresh ginger and turmeric, nutmeg, and fresh herbs whenever possible.
-Aim to make 1/2 of your plate vegetables (and not just potatoes).
-Drink nettle and ginger tea instead of cold water or icey beverages.
**Which one of these can you incorporate today? Comment below to let me know :)**

We'll be diving more into kapha-balancing foods and Ayurvedic routines and practices in my workshop on Saturday, April 17th! We'll do a yoga practice to clear stagnant energy and learn Ayurvedic routines that will give you more energy, stamina, and enjoyment this season. Our Zoom workshop is 4/17 2-4pm ET with a 72-hour replay available! If you join by April 12th, I'll even send you a kapha-balancing tea home blended by me!

The workshop is pay what you can - register at the link in my bio or over on spirocollective.com!

BASIC GOODNESS I first learned about this term fr BASIC GOODNESS

I first learned about this term from Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche about 4 years ago, and it's stayed with me ever since. Believing in our basic goodness means believing that when it's all said and done, at the core of who we are is goodness. The core of who we are is wholeness. And that we all have the capacity to experience the goodness of life.

This idea is one of the things that I most appreciate about Ayurveda - in Ayurveda we're not problems that need to be fixed. Rather, we're whole, complete, perfect beings who experience some symptoms and imbalances. Wholeness is not outside of us, it's part of our essential nature.

In classes this week, we'll be focusing on noticing the basic goodness and peace that is present within us. There will be lots of balancing postures and movements along the centerline to tune into our core.

All classes are pay what you can - register over at spirocollective.com/events (link in my profile). Or you can join our Patreon community - patreon.com/spirocollective - for 90+ recorded yoga classes of varying lengths and styles for just $6/month.

BIG GOOD NEWS It's been officially one month sinc BIG GOOD NEWS

It's been officially one month since my little family made the move up to Buffalo! Buffalo is my hometown (#gobills), and though I'll fully admit that for years I never thought I'd return, there have been signs for a long time that it's the perfect place to settle. I've lived in big cities like New York and DC and small towns like Chapel Hill, NC. Ultimately, Buffalo is the place that combines activity, bustle, and culture alongside an incredibly strong community and small-town feel.

I'm excited to be back on Lake Erie, close to my family and childhood friends, and to be a part of the beautiful resurgence of organic, sustainable food and holistic wellness practitioners in the area.

In one month, Theo is already thriving at daycare and Shaun and I are feeling the joy, welcoming, and community that Buffalo has to offer (Thank you @yogaparkside @rootscoffeeandtea and others). I'm so grateful that I was able to make this move without losing contact with my wonderful yoga students and clients (#thankyouzoom). We'll continue growing our online sangha - our community of folks using powerful practices from Ayurveda, yoga, Buddhism, and modern nutrition and psychology to navigate our own unique paths to well-being.

This move has me dreaming and scheming about new opportunities for retreats and in-person gatherings for community members near and far. Thanks for your support and connection through this last year of pandemic. Sending love to you all.

So many of my clients this past week have expresse So many of my clients this past week have expressed extreme fatigue. Their energy just feels completely spent and they haven't been sure how to break out of the funk.

It has taken so much energy to live through this pandemic, economic uncertainty, loss of loved ones, social and racial reckoning, a huge election, natural disaster, gun violence, and so much more. I often say that there's nothing in biology that's always on. Rather, nature thrives on rhythms and cycles of on and off. Unfortunately, many of our systems are built on "always on" - from cell phones and social media to our new workplaces that blur the distinction between home and work.

This week, we focus on rest. How rest is necessary. How rest isn't a sign of weakness. How rest can exist in many forms. We use this rest to fortify and restore our bodies and minds, so that we can show up for ourselves and those around us. Let's take time to pause.

These will be some special classes. I hope you join me! All classes are pay what you can - register over at spirocollective.com/events (link in my profile). Or you can join our Patreon community - patreon.com/spirocollective - for 90+ recorded yoga classes of varying lengths and styles for just $6/month.

How can you make more space for rest this week?

Drishti is a Sansrkit term translated as sight or Drishti is a Sansrkit term translated as sight or vision. In yoga, we refer to the drishti as the place we set our gaze to - where our physical eyes look.

But drishti is more than our physical sight - it’s also our metaphorical vision. It’s the vision for ourselves, our lives, and our communities.

I’ve had so many clients recently who have a vision of what they want, but keep getting caught in the execution. This is classic Kapha dosha at work - there’s a sense that things need to change, but you’re not sure of how to actually go about doing it (or even if you do know how, it still never seems to change).

If that's the case for you, I’d ask myself these questions:
1. Why is this vision compelling? Why do I want to achieve this result?
2. What is the number one *easiest* action that could help me get closer to that action? (Not the top 10 actions, but the number 1.)
3. When I don’t do this number one action, what am I prioritizing instead? (This could be another activity, or it could be a feeling like comfort.)

Look at the answers to these questions. Do you have a really good reason for why you want to achieve that vision? Is it more important to you than whatever you’re prioritizing in question 3? And if it is - can your answer to number 2 become the most important thing that you do? Can you ensure that it happens each day?

Start here. Start small. Start with ONE THING. And your vision will start to become your reality.

If you’ve been in a workshop or Ayurvedic consul If you’ve been in a workshop or Ayurvedic consultation with me, you know I LOVE kaphas. Folks with a dominant kapha dosha tend to be better at living in the present moment (as opposed to us future-leaning pittas and vatas). Kaphas are gracious hosts and can get lost in a task for hours, and are great at cheerleading/supporting others in their needs.

But all of this present focus can mean that kaphas don’t always have a strong vision. They can get pulled in different directions as they support others, and it's hard to get motivated to set goals and make changes in their own lives. Kaphas tend to stick around in jobs, relationships, or situations that don’t serve them for longer than they necessarily should.

In this week’s yoga practices, we’ll be balancing kapha dosha by sharpening and refining our vision. We’ll explore goals that are important to us and the steps that are needed to get there. We’ll use some heating breath practices like bastrika and use kubera mudra to help bring those goals into focus.

All classes are pay what you can and all are welcome! If you're not able to join us live, head over to patreon.com/spirocollective, where you can get 80+ yoga classes in various lengths and styles for just $6/month. You can also get access to my learning library of yoga poses and tutorials, or get a private yoga session with me each month! Check out patreon.com/spirocollective to learn more.
